Interesting. 'Paranormal' things were much MORE popular in years gone by when people were more stupid. Mediums could more easily fool people. Low quality seances (publicly debunked by Houdini et al) were things legends were made of. The audiences of the seances saw fabric being pulled across a stage and were convinced it was ectoplasm.
However, today its 2008 and science can very easily prove that paranormal 'things' are all nonsense.
It is nothing like someone in the middle ages not being able to comprehend a car.
Today, we know of magician's techniques of spoon bending, stropping watches, reading minds etc and can even video tape Uri Geller etc and catch them cheating.
We know about the immoral cold reading techniques used by the likes of John Edwards.
Basically everything 'paranormal' can be explained, debunked or duplicated by perfectly ordinary means.
However, some people need something to help them make decisions in life, or comfort them when they are experiencing pain or loss so turn to this charlatans in their hour of need.
(As you can tell, I don't believe in the paranormal).
:D
I am not that sure I believe in the normal!
