If a cop pulls you over, you cooperate. Speeding wise or whatever. If you at the Mall and they ask you if you saw something, nothing wrong with telling them. If you see someone get hurt or a wreck, call the police, make a statement.
If you get pulled over for DUI, you don't talk, you don't do anything but ask them to provide you with a lawyer. No breath test, no talking. Force them to get you a lawyer from the get go. The 2+ hours it will take should drop you to the legal limits, and it's 100% legal to do this, avoiding the breath test, until at least 1 hour later.
But when it comes to your HOME, and you are at the house, the rules change. Just look at what happened. He really didn't do anything, but he went to jail, lost access to his kids.. All for something, he never did.
Adding a lawyer into the mix alone, paid for by the state of course. Really helps in most situations. Every American has this right. Your first words should be "I don't understand what is going on, get me a lawyer" They will try to play games with ya, but they must get and pay for a lawyer, for you.
