Actually, you weren't fighting just for us. You were fighting for yourself too. Remember Japan kicking your ass in Pearl Harbour?
But let me rephrase - how many world wars have you (the USA) seen happening on your soil? None. Actually, except for the civil war you had there were no major wars on your continent. While here in Europe we've had LOTS of bloody wars in the past.
