Baton Rouge, Louisiana has been plagued by a serial killer who preys on women. Since at least September of 2001, a single killer has murdered at least four (4) women. The e-mail below alludes to this killer by claiming "America's Most Wanted profiled the serial killer in Louisiana". This story is one of those stories that sounds just plausible enough to be true.
However, no murders have been reported where the murder used the crying baby tactic to lure victims out of the house. The "theory" proposed in the letter is just that: A hypothetical proposition about how a person COULD be lured out of the house. On January 29th, the police in Baton Rouge specifically addressed this crying baby rumor by telling a reporter for the local newspaper, The Advocate, that "If the public was in any danger or if there was any truth to it, we would let the public know," serial killer task force spokeswoman Cpl. Mary Ann Godawa said. "We have no reason to believe this is true."
When a serial killer is on the loose it has the effect of spinning the wheels of the rumor mill at a much wilder pace than usual. Don't believe anything you get as a chain letter on this topic. Check the local papers as use your own common sense.

This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana.
I am not sure if this is true or not at least not in Houston...but its scary enough to think about.
Joan just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last and she called the police b/c it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her "whatever you do, do NOT open the door."
The lady then said that the baby had crawled near a window and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The police said, "we already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." he told her that they think the serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.
He said they have not verified it but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside of their doors when they're home alone at night.
Please pass this on! and do not open the door for a crying baby.
