I've been in and out of here for 10 years.

First I will say... stay out of Pattaya. It is low class, sleazy and full of scum. Imagine an entire city turned into a red light district with the lowest of the low class of Thais working there and the filthiest of the foreigners visiting there and drinking until they pass out on a daily basis. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Bangkok is ok and you can choose to see sleaze or not see it. You can for sure live an upscale life there with normal people and have a normal life. It's more expensive there, but you get what you pay for. You can literally do anything in Bangkok in terms of entertainment. Never a dull moment unless you choose to have one.

Chiang Mai is very chill. It's in the north, laid back and pretty quiet. Worth a peek if you want to chill.

Phuket is fairly upscale but does have a nightlife. Lots of tourists here and as it's in the south, it's HOT and HUMID.

Koh Samui is also upscale in areas and also has a party area. It's an island with an airport. Flights are not cheap as Thai Air and Bangkok Air have a monopoly on the airport and they jack up the rates. It's very chill and a nice place to be.

Of course there are plenty of other areas and islands but those tend to be where people end up. If you have an area you are thinking about, hit me up. I've literally been all over this country many, many times and have been here for a long time.

What I can say about general life here. I hope you don't have a short fuse. The Thais are generally good people but they truly have shit for brains and will drive you fucking mad sometimes. Leave your western mind at home, it doesn't work here. Leave logic at the airport and bring a lot of money. Even though it's a cheap country, if you want to live a good life you are going to pay for it. Nothing works the way it should here, everything you buy will break, everything you pay to have fixed will break again if they fixed it at all.

You should also know that generally the Thais do not like us. They LOVE our money and are willing to lie, cheat and steal for it, but once you really get to know some of them, they will admit many Thais do not like us and think of us as stupid buffalos. Though our drunken actions since the Vietnam War have caused them to think this so it is just.

For as much as I complain, I'm still here after all these years, but I am wearing think and thinking about moving on next year. I always say if Thailand would deport all the Thais, this place would be heaven on earth.

And don't fool yourself into thinking the Buddhist culture is charming. Most of these dip shits are only Buddhist because their parents told them to be and they don't have a clue what the teaching of Buddha really means. They beat animals to death, beat each other to death, kill each other BRUTALLY, drink, gamble, cheat, lie, steal, some parents sell their children, many families pimp out their daughters and then they all go to make merit at the temple, which revolves around them donating money to the temple and them wishing for more money. There is also an increasing amount of Buddhist monks who get caught fucking women, fucking little girls and boys and fucking ANIMALS as well as getting caught gambling, drinking or doing drugs. It's a fucked up yet funny society. You DO have some true Buddhists out there, but you will know more about Buddhism than many Thais do.

With all of that said, come on over. It's a fun place so long as you have a good sense of humor.
