You should read his book.
Before Jim fixx started jogging his doctor gave him a couple of months to live
because he had such a severe congenital heart condition.
His death was sure to come.
Fixx was advised to avoid sex with his wife because it could cause his heart to
fail. He was depressed and decided to commit suicide.....by running!!!
He went out and ran until he passed out, but he didn't die.
Pissed that his death wish had failed, he tried again the next day.
Once again passing out but not dying.
He kept trying and noticed that he was running farther and farther and farther without
dying. Over time he quit trying to kill himself and begain to enjoy the runs.
He started having sex again, was able to work again, wrote a book and became famous.
So did jogging improve his life? Everyone alive thought so and the joggin crazy began.
How big a deal was this?
I read his book back in the 70's and I typed the above stuff from memory.
I can't type a single quote from Othello but I read it too.
