I'd submit with full confidence that it's because cheating is emotional and not physical. The person cheating with you fulfills you in a personal (emotional or intellectual) way ie: bumps your ego instead of telling you for the millionth time to just grow up (or some other remark only available to someone as familiar with you as your spouse is).

"cheating" has never been about what body part touches another. It's about a heart touching another. I feel like it's just a matter of emotional maturity.
