I've always found the amount of weight webmasters give to Alexa pretty interesting. It is, in my opinion, an incredibly over-rated metric.

Consider this from their own site's FAQ on how they measure traffic for its rankings:

Alexa Users... those who have the toolbar installed or search for sites on the Alexa system.

The only people I know who have even heard of Alexa, let alone download and install their toolbar, are webmasters. I'd hardly consider webmaster traffic a good indication of reliable, quality traffic.

I don't give any weight, whatsoever to Alexa. As a general guestimate metric, sure. Beyond that, I think it's rather worthless and entirely over-rated.

Of course, that's just my opinion and it's not meant to try and convince anyone else of Alexa's accuracy, or lack thereof.
