People have a thing for going back to the past. but it cant be too close by... so thats why i agree with the statement... people used to listen to 60's music during the 80s because it was "so old it became cool"... 70s was too close to be cool - it was just old.
Same thing with today. 90s is just too fresh in our memories... so the 80s stuff brings good memories to older people and new sensations to young ones... as a matter of fact, a lot of cutting edge electronic music being produced today is inspired on the punk/clash sensation... spicing up electro and electrorock productions. JunkieXL is a good example - he has a lot of 80s vibes on his new album: Booming Right At You
The same happens with art and anything else really! Everything that is old is new again!

Although I really enjoyed all of the posts in this thread (and they really made me think), this was the exact type of answer I had been searching for. Seems right on to me.
