When I saw the cover layout for my first Penthouse Magazine cover, I emailed the powers to be a small note with a couple of very minor adjustments within photoshop that would have really made a difference in the shot and would have made the model more flattering. In my opinion - there were much better shots but since they wanted this one, I thought it would be fine with a couple of minor adjustments.

They agreed that my "corrections" would have made the shot look better and thanked me for the suggestions...giving me the impression that it would be taken care of. When I got my copies, none of the corrections were made and the cover was not as good as it could have been.

In my opinion, you can't expect an editor of a magazine to color correct your images or pick out the best shots. I've spent years learning to color correct for beautiful skin tone and learning to work with models to bring out their beauty by focusing on their good features and not drawing attention to their bad features. An editor (unless he or she has a passion for what they are doing) will never do a good job at any of this. Magazines would do much better if they'd hire a seasoned photographer (with skills) to do the photo editing instead of giving that job to someone who has no idea what the hell they are doing.
