I know just about every area of L.A. and that's a tough call. Architecturally I can't think of a thing, but here are some thoughts...
If you do a beach shoot keep the water in the distance as the Pacific ocean is brownish and the Atlantic and Gulf are blue.
If you use a Ferrari as someone suggested, be sure and remove the license plates.
Santa Monica probably has the widest beaches, more along Miami's depth. Those lifeguard towers are very much identified with Cali though, probably due to Baywatch. Avoid anything iconic like muscle beach, the Venice boardwalk or the beach bicycle/roller skate path.
Also, someone mentioned finding little Havana in L.A. To the best of my knowledge there is none.
