The main focus will be on foreign policy which is McCain's only real area of strength in this election. Although without Lieberman behind him to feed him the facts the GOP will be praying that he stays on script.

I think Obama will be 1-0 after this debate despite McCain's tenure in D.C.
I went to a McCain town hall meeting in July and his performance was weak.. he had no real plan for anything except for taxing people's benefits and staying in Iraq. The majority of his hour long meeting was avoiding direct questions and getting cheap applause by reminding all of us, over & over, that we were the backbone of this country.
I went to an Obama rally just last week the contrast was incredible. He discussed specific plans for a range of issues including the economy, the wars, taxes, energy.. he's clearly going to do more for the majority of us than McPalin.
He's even going to do more for our veterans than McCain.. including recognizing & actually treating the many PTSD cases our soldiers are coming home with. Bush/McCain have been intentionally misdiagnosing PTSD cases just to save money & to prevent bad publicity. A friend of ours has already been on 2 tours in Iraq, in combat, and is home now and in bad shape. The government says he is just depressed and prescribed him Prozac, even though doctors he's paid for himself report PTSD.. but the treatment is too expensive for him, and current regulations prevent the military from helping out.
