At risk of being flamed royally not all of your points are wrong nor are they all right.

My grandparents came to America from Russia for religious freedom. They died free to worship as they wished. They came pennyless, they died with an estate tax problem.

Is it the same today? Yes and no. Ask any Mexican trying to enter the US for work and they will tell you the US is still a land of opportunity; compared to Mexico and most of the world it is.

Do we have freedom, more than in most of the world. Do we have an industrial society with lots of jobs for labor? No, not any more. The labor is off shore because most corporations are multinational and move jobs to countries with cheap labor.

Please tell me why France exports? Cheese and Wine.
Britain? Germany? No western democracy with a social welfare system can provide cheap labor. China and emerging economies can and do.

Is this bad? It is a realignment. The US just went through an information revolution for ten years there was opporunity in a technology bubble. It will return again, create more jobs and be more stable.

Are there problems? You bet our govenment is no more or less corrupt than any other. Our democracy is not really a democracy but neither are most.

Should we stop being the cops of the world in my opinion yes, except when we or our friends are at risk..
