You're absolutely right about google. As much as I use it, you have to take PR with a grain of salt, and often look at the first two pages of results, as your top results are often 'sponsored', aka someone paying to make their version of the truth at the forefront.

I did plenty of library research back in the day, and though it was grueling, it did yield a generally more solid quality of information. I think you can get that same quality online, it just takes a little practice and discerning judgment on sources.
