Palin will never be the Republican nominee for president.
If McCain loses, her star is going to flame out when she has been vetted by the press and public.
If McCain wins, she will be forced to resign as VP (ie Agnew) due to the allegations currently facing her in Alaska which will lead to criminal charges.
The person McCain picks to replace Palin will become the second president (Ford) to assume office without being elected when McCain dies of natural causes before his term is complete. That person (probably Tom Ridge) will be the Republican nominee in 2012.
