Russian stock market plunges 4.5% on market open
Gonna be a rough day.
MOSCOW, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Russia's MICEX index fell 4.43 percent in the first minutes of trade on Monday after U.S. investment bank Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) filed for bankruptcy protection.
At one point the index of liquid shares was down 5 percent.
Shares in Russia largest bank Sberbank (SBER03.MM: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) fell as much as 9.2 percent as the news hit global banking stocks, then recovered slightly to stand 7.16 percent down at 44.10 roubles. (Reporting by Gleb Bryanski)
