This is SORT of true, the Dexter people actually "Leaked" 3 of the last 4 epps during the first season, and then, right before the final episode of the season, they were off for 2 weeks I believe. The end result: more viewers to the final episode and even more people signing up to Showtime, AND last but not least, Dexter was picked up for another season!
The same thing was done with Californication last year, and like Dexter it got lots of attention, press, and more viewers, and like Dexter it was also renewed for another season.
My FAV "Leak" of all time so far was last year when FOX "Leaked" the first 3 episodes (1+2 were one episode) of the new Sarah Conner Chron... in fact that was the first actual BIG PRESS the show got, mostly because the leak happened almost SIX MONTHS before the show was due to appear!
It is piracy? maybe, but I call it Gorilla Marketing myself lol
