Telling the people what you want to do is easy, coming up with a plan to do it that works is the tough part. I'm not interested in what he or Obama want to do, I want to hear how they are going to do it. Or at least give the impression they have a clue.

My one fear is Obama will be another Carter and we do not need someone like him in power in the US today. On the other hand McCain might be another Bush and that would be worse.
That is the key to politics. You tell people what you want to do, but not exactly how you will do it. That way when you don't do it you can blame a lot of people other than yourself for it not happening. If you call out exactly how you are going to do something then people could see how you failed when you didn't and you would have to shoulder the blame. A great example of this is Bush Sr. when he said during his campaign, "read my lips, no new taxes." Then when he created new taxes he got hammered for it and he lost his re-election.
