The way NATS uses it is explained in the
strack documentation.
NATS lets you set the cookie to different times before it is expired; the official documentation says 10 days, but I've seen different times on different servers.
If the cookie is set and valid, it gets the sale as it was there before the latest affiliate code. If the cookie is not set, expired, or otherwise, the second affiliate will get the credit.
This is assuming a perfect structure where someone has their cookies set properly, the NATS server is configured, session data is not prematurely expired, and the moon is in Jupiter, of course.
But, the rule of thumb is this:
cookie > nats code > type-in
