I chose Miami because that's the city where the thread starter lives. How much more relevant could it possibly be when the thread starter lives in a city that gets damaged by hurricanes as well, and also receives federal aid after said hurricanes.

Stones and glass houses, log in your eye, speck in mine. Ya get it?
You deciding to jump into the argument just to defend cuban immigrants was pretty stupid. You've obviously paid no attention to the rest of what was being discussed, and you obviously couldn't see the connection in how Miami and their large immigrant population was relevant to the discussion, so you should just shut the fuck up now.

Plenty were on it before the hurricane. It is not that bad there now because many people moved to Texas so they will drain that state. I do not have a reading issue. Perhaps you should read this link http://www.endlongtermhomelessness.o...less_rate.aspx

"One problem contributing to the high number of people who are homeless is that existing low-cost housing units that were damaged in the hurricane are being torn down instead of being replaced. " So there were a lot of low cost housing before the hurricane hit.

You want to bitch about paying taxes to teach people English who come here on a boat. Well I can ask you why the hell should US tax payers be paying for low income housing for people born and raised in the USA? Some of us are sick of paying for generations of families that mooch off of the system. So rant and rave all you want. I do not think we should abandon New Orleans like some people have suggested but something has to be done. No one wants to pay to fix that city every few years. It is to damn expensive.
How does it not matter if me and my family have paid taxes longer (and in most cases in higher amounts) than other people, but it does matter if someone in my city is living on the dole? May you should just shut the fuck up and stop contradicting yourself.

You bitch about the people on welfare in New Orleans, you say you have statistics both pre and post Katrina, and then you post a link to an article that's about something totally different.

The VAST MAJORITY of New Orleans residents are gainfully employed and pay taxes, not to mention all of the people who live in the suburbs and commute to New Orleans to work, further expanding the tax base. The idea that the U.S. should just let the city rot because of it's elevation is so stupid that I'm amazed the people who agree with that have managed to learn how to use a computer.

Your assertion that we have to fix the city every few years is equally stupid. Katrina was the first hurricane to damage New Orleans in over 40 years, and had the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT done their job properly in building the levees, even Katrina wouldn't have been a problem.

You can blame the black underclass, or welfare, or Louisiana politicians all you want, but the fact is, the flooding of New Orleans was a failure of the Federal Government, NOT the State or the City or the people on welfare.
If you're really concerned about the waste of money in rebuilding, then write your congressman and Senators and ask them to support levees for New Orleans that can withstand a category 5 hurricane.

Yes he is, and I voted for him for Governor twice.

He was also my congressman, where I voted against him twice.

Just because I support Barack Obama doesn't mean I'm a glassy-eyed-vote-the-party-line-liberal-dreamer. I actually spend alot of time studying the candidates and the issues before making a decision every time I vote.

That's a pretty ridiculous assertion, that we should just move all of the people here somewhere else because we have space available.
Someone else owns that space that you think is available, and all the people here own the space they're on.

Abandoning a major U.S. city is just overall one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard, even for GFY.
