That's because the story has been played out. Not unlike this story in a couple weeks. Wright and Obama was a huge story that was played out over months and included him giving specific speeches, press conferences, and more. It even resulted in questions asked of him at debates. I don't think anyone has forgotten it, just that everyone knows about it by now.
And the difference between this being a Democrat and Republican is relevant. Republicans are the ones going around bitching about "liberal values" and "corrupting our youth". They are the ones that make sex taboo in the public. Being a hypocrit matters. Just as when John Edwards preached about poverty yet spent hundreds on haircuts, it's an issue when a candidate preaches Christian values and doesn't seem to have any in their own family.
