I'm sure(I hope) you know this, but Georgia is a key ally with the US for defensive missile and military installations against Russia and others. Russia is still (unofficially) our enemy. It's not nearly as abstract as the "war on terror". It's a concrete thing we can all agree we still don't like over here. Regardless of anything else, that is how it is.
