This guy went to war on a $25k salary, came home to find out his wife was a cripple, immediately started to party and sleep around, then promptly divorced her when he had his current wife all worked out.
He moves in with rich chick, and her rich ass father of course was quick to tell him what being in their family is all about. It's about politics. And so, her father makes a few phone calls, and voila - you're a politician now.
From there on in, every position he's had has been a move up in the political ranks, orchestrated by his married into family and their business associates.
He probably hasn't been allowed to make a decision for himself since he got married the second time, and that suits him just fine. They tell him what to do, he goes and does it.
Not sure how much more clear it could get.
