The very best advice I can give you in regards to forum SEO is this:
Do not build the forum with SEO on your mind
In order to build any type of viable community be it a forum or MySpace type website? you must be able to identify with the potential members / visitors. Fall in love with the subject at hand and build the forum from scratch as if user experience is your only concern.
If you concentrate on SEO from the start, your forum will die? I guarantee it.
Fall in love with you subject and build a real destination. Once you reach 100 members then you can start the process of SEO and promotions for the community
Your users are your friends and friends are good for more than a ride to the store or a drink at the bar?? besides word of mouth ( or word of type is worth more)
Don?t be afraid to ask for the favor
FYI ... SEO 1.0 applies after the forum is up and running... never before
