that was 10 years ago only..
He was already one of the bigger names in the sport.
An ESTABLISHED name.
Tyson, Hollyfield, Lewis, Bowe.
That was it.
Oh yeah and Moorer and maybe Foreman.
But Lewis was the guy critics had most hope for and validity for.
Tyson was already looked at as a washed up fighter then.
So was Hollyfield. Bowe was retiring, and forman was entertainment value to a dying weight class. Moorer was a joke.
Lewis was the only game in town to take us forward. He was the next best thing in the heavyweight rankings at 26, unlike Klitchko who was and still is trying to prove his validity as a top heavyweight in his division.
Lewis was the flagship to carry the weight division to the future so much so that when he lost to Oliver McCalll critics were saying there were no legit heavyweights in the industry anymore.
Heavyweight Boxing is dead.
