That's true of any host country Paul. Everyone wants their country cast in a golden light, and since the Olympics are about the largest forum for doing that I would think it is one of the biggest reasons why so many countries vie for the honor.
I wasn't saying it isn't political, I doubt anyone is. Btw, what I was referring to by "political" was the penchant people have for using the Olympics as a vehicle to further their political views or whatever political outrage du jeur they are protesting at the moment. What I am saying
isn't that the games aren't political, but that they shouldn't be, in that one regard. That's all.
