It doesn't make you any more attractive. If you are ugly then nothing will help you and you being in a relationship isn't gonna make you attractive. The thought goes
"Good, he's fucken ugly. She can HAVE him. Good riddance! Don't let the door knock you on the way out. Let's hope we don't see you around anymore!"
or sometimes it's pity
"Wow even an ugly like that can get someone. Well good for him. I guess everyone has different taste".
