I think it's because when we're in a relationship we're... more confident? Lusted and Loved. Prouder? Sticking out our chests and walking with a sure step. Because SHE is back there, or ahead here - the woman who'd vouch for you, fight for you, back you and stand by you (or so we tell ourselves heh).
