Word of Advice: Try to find out what the source of the short was first - power supply connector, surge, etc. You don't want to risk losing another drive.
this is what you should try... otherwise a lot of local pc shops have this ghost disk thing that can copy shit off dead drives.. atleast a buddy of mines former employer had one
