On the subject of Africa, some areas of Maputo, Mozambique a couple of years after the war. Most areas of the city were great you could walk at night without guards etc, but we drove to one market in the day, and immediately reversed out. Lots of fuckers basically started converging on the land cruiser with murder in their eyes...
Also i remember frequently accelerating through police checkpoints at night in Lagos. BEing white you were just as likely to get robbed by them as anyone else...
