From infoplease.com - 532,000 U.S. forces served in Operation Desert Storm. There were a total of 148 U.S. battle deaths during the Gulf War, 145 nonbattle deaths, and 467 wounded in action.

Work the numbers and you get a 0.00563% rate of death. 0.00279 rate of death for battle deaths, and 0.002735 rate of death for non-battle deaths.

I'd expect to see a bit higher death rate than the Gulf, but certainly nothing as terribly managed as Vietnam. Before we were cleaning them out of Kuwait in open fields. This time we'll be sending soldiers directly into cities where Iraqi soldiers will be hiding.
