I've had a lot of male and female talent call me over the past few months, looking for work--I guess they pass directors' phone numbers around--including two LA Direct girls, which is kinda funny as I haven't used LA Direct for over five years. And girls are also much more willing to work around their agency, even though they might be under an exclusive contract.
And talent rates are going down: I share my office with an agent, and a lot of producers/directors are starting to lower what they're offering talent. One very well known and successful director now offers a girl $600 for a b/g scene initially. He'll go up to $700 but won't go any higher--and girls are going for it.

These are current, as of last month's numbers for an AVERAGE girl at LA Direct. Some girls make less, and are willing to take the chance of being fired by booking themselves directly.
I agree that a lot of the traditional DVD based studios have slowed down their production, but by the same measure so have some of the largest subscription based sites. It is not just LA where production has slowed down, it is the entire adult industry. I for one, sincerely hope that the prices that some of these girls charge for scenes falls
