We can fly, we can break the speed barrier and within 100 years we will travel at the speed of light. We are not that far off from being ETs to some other culture ourselves.
Frankly I don't see this as being something completely outside of the realm of possible.
The only people who can't and will not believe this are religious folk who demand we were placed on this planet 4500 years ago by an invisible man in the sky.

There very well may be species that are thousands if not tens of thousands of years ahead of us time wise. No argument there at all.
If you really think we will be able to travel at the speed of light in 100 years let alone 1000's or greater, you really need to have someone sit you down and explain physics to you. Then assuming we can reach the speed of light without it harming the human body *odds dictate it would be robots anyways. Then it still would have to travel the speed of light for 78,000 years before it reached the next closest galaxy. Which is a little more than half of the time homosapiens have even been on our planet *oldest fossil record approx 135k
Then as your church comment, only the real nut jobs think the earth is 6,000 years old (not 4,500). The Catholic church among others have already acknowledged the possibility of life outside of Earth. It may come as a surprise but there are a whole lot of Christian and Catholic scientists that are very respectable.
PS. To a few others: If you really think that we have not been on the moon, please just proceed to slap the shit out of yourself until you get it.
