I know guys who go gym 5 days a week, spend hour/s there just to look how they think they should.
But you're right this society only values girls who look good, and if you're that girl than you'll likely have a good life. If you're not that girl, well it's a lot tougher. Still, even an unattractive girl has it easier in some respect than unattractive guy (i.e. can still get laid, get a decent guy whenever they want), and vice versa (less expectation on men to look perfect in every day life).
On the flipside this society only really values men who are XYZ and everything in between, with the biggest one being wealth. If you're not that than you're likely another cock standing at the back of the club, or worse yet maybe you're playing WoW on a friday night.
You can have a good life ignoring all this societies pressures, prejudices, etc, but if you want to live the dream they sell on TV these are the rules. I find it ironic that the movement headed by the media, hollywood, MTV, etc that claims to break down racism, prejudice, homophobia. etc so we can are all accepted as individuals has formed such a cult of lookism and materialism whereby if you don't fit into the image they sell you are still forced to 'sit at the back of the bus' in a metaphorical kind of way.
And nah, I'm not an ugly bastard, just someone who has been around the world and can see this society for what it really is - good and bad.
