Probably because he hasn't been online and most likely won't be for a few days - and wants his clients or trades or whomever else he deals with to know he didn't run off to join God or skip town.... I would see this as the most logical reason + there are people that know them as friends here too and would be concerned by silence. One message on GFY saves misunderstandings, time and energy repeating the story.
