This may be a stupid question, but did you charge them first?

My new camera eats up expensive energiser E2 batteries like there's no tomorrow. I did barely 30-40 shots before the camera turned up its toes and demanded new batteries. Now I've got myself some 1800mAh nimh rechargeables, done 100+ shots and still going strong.
