Another agreement here. 99% of the time my hand is outside the handstrap and I let the neckstrap just hang down. If I feel the need for safety, I most often wrap the strap around my wrist a couple of times so it allows movement from Portrait to Landscape, but if I do happen to slip or fall, it will stay put.

Just get a normal strap... anything else is no big deal. If you want it removable, get the quick release.
