uhm, that is 'cause compared to their shriveled units, they think, as apparently do you, it is big. Also, do not forget that the old ones are also somewhat blind and tend to only see a fuzzy outline, thus making it look bigger.
Hold up a toothpick and the old prunes will think you've got a sword in yer mitts!
