Back when I got that ticket the 'lose limit' was 8 points in 3 years. I nearly hit that limit too - I was a bit of a reckless teen.
I think it helped that when I got caught doing 55 over it was around 3 am on a fairly rural road so the only thing I was likely to hit was a gopher. Had it been any time when traffic was about I think I would have gone to jail for dangerous driving.
