Steroids is such a loaded term but Robbie is exactly right about exogenous testosterone. The supra-physiological levels of testosterone that bodybuilders take to get huge are indeed dangerous if taken for too long and have serious side effects.

But testosterone in the injectable or gel form mostly prescribed by doctors specializing in male health and anti-aging medicine is perfectly legal in the U.S. And it has powerful health benefits for males over 35 or so, basically bringing their testosterone levels back to what a eighteen year old male has which affects energy, muscle tone, mood and libido among other things. I know from personal experience, I am in the best shape of my life at thirty-nine because of a combination of a healthy diet, weight-lifting & exercise and learning about these advances in medical science. In the not so distant future this is going to be a standard part of any male's health regimen who cares about taking care of themselves as they get older. HGH is another hormone that has benefits for both men and women over a certain age, but there are more potential risks associated long term HGH use. Definitely worth trying if you are really getting long in the tooth however in my opinion unless you are prepared to really let your self fall apart after age fifty or so.
