Not to mention it can take up to a month for checks to clear down here.... actually most banks in Costa Rica won't charge if the check's from a US bank. Another big huge honkin' problem is the rampant unreliability of the mail, and yes, it's still rampantly unreliable with a post office box.
I use epass for small payments. If a U.S. program has a low-fee ACH payment option, I'll pick that since I have a U.S. bank account. Otherwise, check is the last option for small payments. The payments over $500-1000 are worth the wire fee.
