I think he was just as me trying to point out that you are inexperienced and the banana thing was just an aid to make you see that. Experience needs time and you are still in "the getting to know the industry" fase.
That is not a bad thing. Being there and acting like you are experienced and know it all is a bad thing though and irritates some people. We have all been young. We have all been there. We are all human and hopefully improve on things in time.
Being hard and clear is not always because you want to insult somebody. Sometimes you just want them to open your eyes.
In this case you might read back your initial post. It sounded like you and you alone were asked by a big company. Further on in the thread you say they might have approached several people. Might have been wise to write the first post in a more humble way.
Have you had that good talk with Michael yet?
You will make progress in the industry but you are not there yet...
