I think the US should have mandatory military service of a minimum of 4 years for every able citizen, national and resident alien from the ages of 18 to 35. Citizens would be required to commence mandatory military service immediately upon graduation of high school unless they enroll and complete 4 years at a university, otherwise their service shall commence upon graduation from college in which case their military position and rank is based on their university studies, grades, etc..
Nationals, resident aliens and those seeking citizenship should be required to commence mandatory military service within 30 days of entering These United States of America and only after completion of their 4 years service shall they be entitled citizenship.
I also think military COMBAT service shall be an applicable criminal sentence for certain crimes in which the offender can redeem himself.
