How many German luxury cars have you owned? Lexus is in that gap between those I mentioned and not quite to the upper levels of luxury cars. Sure they compare nicely to the low end BMW's but Lexus just doesn't have anything even close to high end where you get all that luxury AND a respectable engine.
Toss price out the window.... sedans the Lexus LS then compare it to Mercedes S600 or a BMW 760 now you get the picture.... Lexus only competes on the lower end of luxury vehicles. I like them but I personally drive a civic hybrid during the week and a '68 Mustang on weekends. My personal tastes are more towards the classic cars when it comes to enjoying driving. Giving the finger to big oil is more important to me than a luxury interior.
My grandfather on 1 side buys all cadillacs and one on the other side only buys mercedes and I've bought some of his mercedes when he's done with them and they're just unbelievable machines.
My next new vehicle will likely be a VW as soon as they bring the diesel hybrids out. I saw somewhere the golf/rabbit diesel hybrids getting 100MPG (simple since so many get 50MPG out of the normal TDI's
