Like u-Bob I prefer Slackware myself, but it isn't for most people (though not as much now as versions past, you do have to manually edit a few config files), so if you just want to "use" linux without learning too many new things... Debian, Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Mandriva, PCLOS, Zenwalk... pretty much those in the top 10 or so on
