I don't feel sorry for her. I have known Claire on and off for a couple of years. She's at many of the trade shows, and is friendly to everyone she meets and works hard to meet as many people as possible. This + Camera friendlyness = good branding potential to me.
Sure she has made some mistakes, but who hasn't.
Since Claire is going to a couple of shows that I won't be attending, it might be a good move for us to at least get our name out there if we can't be there in person.
