As a marketing professional (which you claim to be), you should be able to back up what you stated, instead of backpedaling and avoiding any responsibility for a specific statement that you made.
Otherwise, if you made that statement, but have no specific knowledge that what you said is true or not, just admit it...you're young, so people will forgive you (although you may have to post your banana pix another hundred times or more, cause gosh darn, people just love to see the same photo a gazillion times).
