The comments about Israel may be stupid, but yours are just propaganda as well. I've been to Iran, and Lebanon (and stayed in Hezbollah territory - Beqaa Valley near Baalbek) and Syria on my way back from Europe last year. I survived all three, and actually the people in all the places were as kind to me as could possibly be. I don't doubt if you were Jewish, or American (I know Syria makes it hard for American's to get into the country now days, not impossible though) it might be a little different, but nothing like you said.
I actually remember in the middle of the night walking around Beirut and bumping into two American tourists (about 20 years old) boyfriend and girlfriend and they were having no problems either, and myself and my friend went and hit some nightclubs (kind of lame compared to European ones but the Lebanese girls love white guys so was fun) with them. Sure their Government policies and religion aren't something I want to see in Europe any time soon, but the people themselves (particularly the Shia) are quite kind and down to earth and not very religious at all. I don't doubt Israel would be a decent place to visit, full of decent people, but the Government policy that they pursue is pretty appalling.
