So, I expect some announcement of life being discovered in some form soon. Maybe from the Mars surface, Maybe the probes have found some proof that's being canned until the religion has a chance to soften the blow?

Sounds very plausible.
No government in their right mind is going to announce the discovery of life in some form on another planet without working very closely with the church. Religion means more to the stability of the planet than some here want to believe.
