I've lived in Puerto Rico and have travelled to the DR and I love it.....I loved Jamaica even more and it was my favorite spot in the Caribbean..
But let me give you a little secret....Go to Belize....It is more beautiful than Hawaii and just as fun as Jamaica, minus all of the red eyed mean looking Rastas everywhere....The Rasta's in Belize actually have a SMILE on their face.
It's sandwiched between Mexico and Guatamala but the official language is English....It has an easy to understand exchange rate (2BZ = $1) and the food is something that you don't have to get used to as you'll spend a lot of time eating grilled fish and chicken....There isn't a lot of fried food like in Puerto Rico...
I was just there in early April and I would have returned in June with my children for vacation but the ex-wife won't sign for the passport....Therefore, I gotta wait until August when I'm going again and I will be looking into buying property down there because I will eventually retire and live there...
If you want to be harrassed by whores like in DR, cool....But if you want to lay on the beach and meet some real friendly normal girls and tourists, go to Belize...
